LAHAINA – The Board of Directors of Theatre Theatre Maui has selected Angel Emerson to join the TTM team as their administrative assistant effective June 1.

In this new part-time role, Emerson will provide coordination and administrative services in support of the nonprofit organization.

Since its formation in 1991, TTM’s primary mission remains “to provide a full spectrum of hands-on theater experiences for the children and adults of the West Maui community.”

Emerson brings to TTM her shared passion for the performing arts along with an impressive background. In addition to her TTM position, Emerson is the assistant technical director at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and had been employed with Maui Academy of Performing Arts as the production and stage manager.

Prior to MAPA, she ran the technical department at Maui Theatre (“‘Ulalena,” “Burn’n Love,” “Fourever Fab”).

She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Technical Theatre/Stage Management from Wright State University, has career credits with many theater companies and has worked in 32 states, including a national tour.

“We are excited to welcome Angel as our administrative assistant,” remarked Annabehl Sinclair-Delaney, TTM president. “Her experience and enthusiasm will be a great asset to us as we continue to move forward and closer to our 30th year of serving the community. TTM has grown much, and we hope to continue to provide more programs to our West Side community in the future with her help.”

“As a West Side resident, I am thrilled to be joining an organization committed to promoting the arts in my community and am inspired by TTM’s dedication to rearing our keiki with the values that the performing arts have to offer,” responded Emerson.

“Thanks to inspirational teachers in my life, I was able to pursue a career in the arts. According to Yeats, ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire,’ and I look forward to being part of the process of inspiring confidence, curiosity and creativity in our local youth,” Emerson concluded.

In related news, TTM chose to retool its ongoing performing arts programs over to online classes since March, when the stay-at-home mandate went into effect.

“Kristi Scott (dba Great Scott Productions) has been doing a great job with running our afterschool drama clubs from last October to the present time. Now she continues to engage our students by presenting a variety of activities they can participate in the safety of their own homes,” added Sinclair.

“She will again be directing our summer program and bringing in a talented team of instructors who will forge into new, creative and fun ways for the students to collaboratively learn.”

This year’s summer camp experience will keep to its full six weeks and run from June 8 to July 17 on weekdays.

Students can count on daily online group instruction and tutorials with a tailored individual approach for each student. The goal is to work towards a culminating product, which this year is being planned as a variety type show (Home School “the Musical”) involving a combination of songs, dance and acting performance pieces.

Sinclair-Delaney explained, “It is hoped by the final two weeks, if not earlier, that student groups can be videotaped, and this can all be weaved into a culminating presentation for viewing online.”

Registration has been underway for students entering the fourth grade to 12th grade in the 2020-21 school year. Since this is an online camp, a call-out for temporary donations of electronic devices may be needed.

Sponsored in part by the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, the Somerville-Olsson Trust and supported by other donors and the business community, TTM’s programs continue to be affordable.

This summer’s tuition has been reduced to $300; a sibling discount of $50 continues to be available, and financial aid may be applied for up to June 5.
